| | Nov 25, 2009 — The Welding Technology Education Center, Inc (WTEC) in Marcellus, MI, has been recognized as an American Welding Society Educational Institution Member. This prestigious worldwide membership is exclusively for educational institutions that strive to maintain the professionalism of their teaching staff through membership in the American Welding Society (AWS). The founding of the AWS in 1919 was to advance the science, technology and application of welding and applied processes. WTEC is committed to the future of the industry, and proud to be a part of and carry on this philosophy. The AWS announced WTEC’s new membership status in their official magazine, the Welding Journal, December issue.
Since opening this past spring, success came swiftly to WTEC. The students’ prior skills has been from no-welding experience, to many years of experience, and all have been very satisfied with the caliber of training they have received. WTEC provides industry-level welding training specific to aluminum and steel, also offering on-site training and consulting.
Ron Troxell, WTEC president, is very pleased with the success of the training program. With WTEC participating in the “No Worker Left Behind” program, through Michigan Works, he said, “we are able to provide training to workers looking to acquire more skills to increase employment opportunities or increase earning potential.” The AWS states, “With welders retiring at twice the pace of new welders coming into the field, it’s anticipated that by 2010, we’ll see a shortfall of 200,000 welders.” WTEC is proud to play a vital role in helping to rebuild this “high in demand” welding workforce.
