FROM METALS DISINTEGRATING Co. 1916
Everett Joel Hall was many
things—assayer, teacher, inventor,
pioneer, humanitarian. The
"Yankee Professor" taught at
Columbia University in NY for 30
years and simultaneously
pioneered commercialization of
powdered metal technology.
1944: MD instrumental in
forming Metal Powder
Industries Federation (MPIF)
In 1900 at age 23, Hall sails on the SS Maria Theresa to be engaged
as an Assayer for Tata Iron Works in Hyderabad, India.
Allied blockade of Central Powers in World War I shuts off supply of
imported Zinc powder to the U.S. Chemical Industry. Professor Hall
starts METALS DISINTEGRATING CO. to supply this need.
In 1921 working with Harry
Williams of General Motors
Research Center, MD develops
copper & tin powders for
Bronze Self-Lubricating Bearings.
Times-September 29, 1941 calls it
"the most radical innovation
in metallurgy since the Bronze
Age". From cars to trolleys to
vacuum cleaners, and today it is
used in virtually every appliance.
At the request of Samuel Wiley of the
Ordnance Dept, U.S. Army he develops
production of granular aluminum powder
which plays a major role in World War I.
To Alcan Powders and Pigments 1963
June 1964: MPIF awards Professor Hall its first
posthumous Pioneer Award to honor the man who
founded MD and pioneered the progress in P/M.
1946: MD Selected to receive
Achievement Award for participation
in World War II Manhattan Project.

1982 - Copper Infiltrant Powders
1987 - Nu Bronze Premixes
1991 KP Bronzes & Unleaded Brass MD plants became

Pigments in 1963.
Don 0. Noel, who also received the P/M
Pioneer award, and John Haertlein, who was
awarded the P/M Distinguished Service Award
guided Alcan Powders through the '60s and 70s.
The seeds Professor Hall planted
are still thriving and his dream
continues to be a reality.
Today we continue to Dream the Greatest
Dreams...Seek the Highest Goals...and
