| | Bridgeport Magnetics Group Inc. was formed early 2008 by joining the two sister companies Tortran, Inc. founded in Bridgeport, CT in 1986 and Alpha-Core founded in 1982, under the same corporate name. At the Tortran Divsion, we specialize in the design and manufacture of toroidal isolation and power transformers, current sensing transformers (CT's) and DC and AC inductors. Most of our products utilize cores made of grain oriented silicon steel strips, powder iron or ferrite. Since no special tooling is required when winding toroidal transformers, many of our customers have found that our full custom designed transformers and chokes can be less expensive than a standard design also in quantities as low as 100 pieces.
Full custom designed transformers are available up to 20,000VA. single phase or 60 KVA for three-phase applications. For large volume requirements we work closely with our Asian partners to be able to offer you highly competitive prices. Our proprietary, programmable, high-speed toroidal winding machinery helps us offer low prices also for small to medium size orders made here in CT. Our low factory overhead combined with our overall high efficiency in our manufacturing operation also contributes to our price competitiveness. Our CUSTARD line of power transformers is based on our stock of standard cores already wound with 117/234V, 50-60Hz primaries and ready for secondary winding(s) and termination as specified by you. Our website lists all our standard designs transformers and chokes. Please check prices with the factory as there may have been some revisions. The CUSTARD concept allows us to promise delivery in a week from our Shelton factory. In adddition to using regular toroidal cores wound from strips of constant width grain-oriented silicon steel, we now offer the O-Core transformer line up to 1000 VA made from the same silicon steel. Compared with our regular toroids, the circular cross section of the O-Core reduces the overall size and weight by 15% to 30% .
