COBEY originally incorporated in June of 1987 as a Manufacturer Representative/Packager with two Stockholders – John Obey and Robert Castle.
At inception, compressor companies were our target market. A local compressor company was to become a major customer. Unfortunately they closed their doors very soon after we opened ours. Not to be deterred, our hard work and perseverance enabled us to sign contracts representing such major industry players as Peerless Manufacturing; a separator and pulsation vessels manufacturer, and Precision General (PGI), an instrument valve manufacturer.
We remember the excitement of our first order like it was yesterday; valves from PGI were received and shipped in September of 1987, and our first oil system package was ordered and shipped in 1989. However, the order that put us on the map was in 1988 for three 660 GPM API 618 oil systems for a local engine manufacturer.
Another fond memory of 1988 was when we were summoned to the offices of a Wisconsin compressor company. During the early years, COBEY had been allowed to quote API614 oil systems, but was always told that the order was going to be awarded to their "normal supplier". However, upon arrival at their office we were told that the "normal supplier" was going out of business…we left with six orders! A few days later semi's arrived full of components and parts…officially putting COBEY in the API614 lube oil console business. These units were all shipped successfully, and this Wisconsin compressor company remains a major client today.
Over the years, we've abandoned our manufacturer's rep business and focused our efforts in developing COBEY into a major supplier of oil systems, compressor packages, gas seal panels and more. Perseverance, dedication and very low turnover by our staff have been the key to our success.
COBEY has combined our engineering offices with the manufacturing facility and are now located in Buffalo, NY. With its proud history of manufacturing, and blue-collar work ethics, the Western New York region provides an abundance of skilled labor and industrial knowledge. These strengths allow COBEY to maintain the highest standards of quality, while remaining efficient and cost-competitive in todays global market. | |
