| | Henri Polak Diamond Corp is a leading distributor of Natural Industrial Diamonds for use in diamond tools used in the manufacture of automobiles, airplanes, medical and optical products, fiber optics, computers, printing tools, and a wide variety of consumer electronics.
Polak Diamonds is based in New York, with a branch office in Antwerp, Belgium, and sources its diamonds directly from DeBeers, and through auctions and tenders in Antwerp and Johannesburg, and from additional suppliers on the secondary markets in Antwerp and Tel Aviv.
Polak then adds value to its purchases by assorting them into over 200 categories based on size, shape, quality and application. It sells diamonds from $6 to $600 per carat directly from its head office, and to its European clients through the Antwerp office, and in the Far East through local agents, including Mutual Corporation in Tokyo and others in China.
Polak has a long and rich history, as current owner Nicky Polak Berk is a third generation diamond dealer, whose grandfather Jacob Polak ran his own diamond polishing factory in Antwerp, and whose great-uncle Henri Polak organized the first diamond cutters' union in Amsterdam and has a street, Henri Polak Laan in Amsterdam to mark his contribution.
Nicky's mother, Maggy, was the daughter of Hyman Querido, a well-known DeBeers broker in Antwerp before the War and in New York after the War, while her uncle Salomon van Berg ran his own very successful trading firm in New York, Rough Diamond, where he trained Maggy in Industrials.
In fact, it was "Uncle Sal's" friendship with the Oppenheimer family, owners of DeBeers, that got Nicky's dad Henri his very own sight that set him on the path to an exciting life in the industrial diamond business, a business that Nicky is honored to carry on today.
