These machines have a very unique and specific capability of drilling holes in any type of electrically conductive material such as metal. They have very specific settings that can be set to drill small holes such as .008” or .2mm in diameter holes very accurately into edm parts. EDM drilling is when a Brass or Copper Tube is connected to a small hole EDM machine through a collet or chuck, then is fed through a ceramic guide that keeps the electrode in place and stable. These EDM Electrodes or EDM Supplies then conduct electricity through them down to the work-piece which is the part that you want to drill a hole into. A shorthand term for this process is called Holepop, Holeburning or Holepopping. Most people call it EDM Drilling or Small Hole EDM.

HOLEPOP.com specializes in only selling High Precision Brass and Copper tubing. Brass and Copper is the most common EDM Consumable material because it is able to work the best on most metal types. Brass is best used for Tool Steels, Stainless, Titanium, Carbon, Invar, Aluminums and Work Hardened materials that have been heat treated so they cannot easily be machined. Copper is used best on exotic types of metals such as Tungsten and Carbide, these metals are extremely hard and cannot be machined or drilled through using conventional type drilling, only EDM Drilling. | |
