| In 1976, Industrial Products Company(IPC) almost lost one of its key accounts but, Jack Carter (President & CEO) devised a program that not only saved that key account, but today, that program, represents 96 percent of his companys' volume. The program, called the IPC 'Fastener Inventory Management System', generates savings for any company that handles fasteners and any related C-code items. "Because our industry is so competitive, price is definitely a factor." Carter said. "This program manages all facets of the fastener buying experience." The Lynchburg, VA based company sets up a program in which itowns 100 percent of the customers' fastener inventory-even buying what the customer already has on hand. IPC then manages the fastener inventory: supplying all hardware needed to meet production requirements and providing bonded, insured employees on the customers premises to handle ordering, receiving, and quality control. Carter points outthat the advantages include elimination of purchase orders, expediting, freight, physical receipts, and many other handling aspects. One of the biggest selling factors of the program is the reduction of inventory-high on the priority list for any manufacturing operation today. IPC has seen tremendous growth in recent years. This growth can be attributed not only to IPC's FIMS, but also, their emphasis on quality control.
