Thread rolling is a process of etching external threads on a work piece. A hardened die posing the required thread profile, is pressed against a gyrating work piece. A gradual and steady increment in force exertion transfers the required thread profile to the work piece. Screws produced by this process are superior in strength to machined threads due to factors like cold working and better material yielding. In addition, this process is qualified to perform non-threading operations such as knurling, rolling and burnishing of various forms of annular and helical grooves.
