 EXPANDING PINS, Hex Head

FEATURES: Precision alignment pin that expands to tighten up hole clearance (.004" minimum expansion on the smallest diameter, up to .010" minimum expansion on the largest diameter). The pin is an assembly of female split bushings separated by male segments, all on a center spindle, that expands when drawn together. This assembly provides excellent shear strength, comparable to a solid pin. Expanding Pins can be installed in through holes or blind holes.

SIZES: Available in pin diameters from 1/4 to 1", each in a choice of several lengths.

OPERATION: Tightening the hex nut with a wrench expands the pin diameter to take up slack and secure the pin in place. Hold center spindle stationary with a hex wrench while tightening.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS: Choose a proper pin length such that no split bushings extend beyond the installation hole. All bushings must be contained by the hole in order to exert full pressure and avoid over-expanding the bushings.

MATERIAL: Split bushings, male segments, and spacers > 17-4PH stainless, Rc 40 min, passivated, dry film lube. Center spindle > 4130 steel, Rc 36-40, cadmium plated, dry film lube. Barrel nut and washer > Carbon steel, cadmium plated, dry film lube. Hex nut > Alloy steel, cadmium plated, with locking element.

 EXPANDING PINS, Cam Handle

FEATURES: Precision alignment pin that expands to tighten up hole clearance (.004" minimum expansion on the smallest diameter, up to .010" minimum expansion on the largest diameter). The pin is an assembly of female split bushings separated by male segments, all on a center spindle, that expands when drawn together. This assembly provides excellent shear strength, comparable to a solid pin. Expanding Pins can be installed in through holes or blind holes.

SIZES: Available in pin diameters from 1/4 to 1", each in a choice of several lengths.

OPERATION: Moving the cam handle through its full travel expands the pin diameter to take up slack and secure the pin in place. If additional adjustment is required to achieve desired retention force, loosen the setscrew in the center of the barrel nut, turn the center spindle to achieve a tight fit, then retighten the setscrew.

Handle > Aluminum alloy, anodized.
