Indexing Turntables Because of their versatility, our Indexing Turntable machines handle a wide range of high-production jobs at a very attractive cost. We can tailor these machines to meet your needs with a minimum of custom engineering. With all of our automated systems, Empire supplies a custom piece of equipment tailored to your specific application.
Continuous Turntables Empire's continuous turntable machines process parts while the operator is loading and unloading parts. Continuous turntables are especially advantageous when the parts being processed are inconsistent, requiring inspection. The operator can determine if the part needs to be run through a second time or flipped for 100% coverage.
Shot Peeners Empire offers custom-manufactured shot peening machines to meet your application or industry standard specification. Most peening systems include a vibratory classifier to insure the reclaimed media size is maintained for consistent results. Often, these machines include controllers and/or monitors with fault sensors to shut down the process if the system operates outside of preprogrammed parameters. These parameters may include blast pressure, shot flow, part rotation speed, and nozzle oscillation speed.
In-Line Machines Our In-Line Machines process parts on a continuous basis. These machines accept and unload work pieces handled manually or robotically. Standard conveyor belts are available in 20" or 24" widths and belt speed is variable to maximize production efficiency on different types of work pieces. We offer a full range of conveyors, including flat-belt, pinch-belt and pinch-roller systems. As always you have the choice of suction, pressure or continuous-pressure blast systems with fixed or oscillating guns or our unique rotating head with high-production suction gun configurations. Standard units come with either six-gun or nine-gun rotary blast heads. These units can be custom engineered to meet your production requirements.
Cell Machines Empire's single station cell machine is an example of how we meet the ever-changing demands of the manufacturing marketplace. Empire designed the cell machine due to the desire to remove in-process inventory with cell manufacturing as well as the need to conserve plant floor space.
Batch Machines Empire offers two types of batch processing machines in various sizes. The continuous turntable involves loading a batch of parts onto a turntable, and the indexing turntable involves loading parts onto individual satellite stations. These machines allow the operator to load a batch of parts, set the blast parameters, and then perform other functions while the machine processes the batch. This is especially advantageous for parts requiring long blast cycles. All of Empire's batch machines are equipped with turntable jog buttons for ease of part loading. As with all of Empire's automated machines, gun/nozzle manipulation options include the rotary head, vertical and horizontal oscillation, giving us the flexibility to design the machine around the customer's application.
4-Axis Machines Empire has supplied many tire mold cleaners to aid manufacturers in gaining production with minimal downtime. We have made machines that handle up to 10,000 lb. molds, 65" in diameter. Our programmable 4-axis machines with part recipe storage capabilities reduce changeover time when switching tire mold size or style. We have made machines for Bridgestone, Firestone, Cooper Tire, and Goodyear among others.
EM2 Dust Collectors Cartridge Dust Collectors for High Volume Systems Designed for dust collection with high-production equipment, such as automated air-blast systems, these EM cartridge collectors increase air flow, provide more filtration area, and clean filters automatically. The filter cleaning system consists of a photohelic gauge, provided as standard equipment. This unit responds to high and low set points, measured in terms of pressure differential across the filtering material, to activate the jet-pulse cleaning process. Once the pressure limits have been set, these collectors essentially clean themselves.
Media Control Media Size Control Media size control may be the most important aspect in achieving consistent blast results. Empire's cyclonic reclaimers are the best the industry has to offer. The external tuning band allows the operator to control the size of the fines carried to the dust collector, thus maintaining a desired media size range. Adjustments require no tools and once the desired media mix is achieved, the operator is able to "set it and forget it." For shot peening and other systems where the media size must be guaranteed to be within a specified range, vibratory classifiers are added. 100% of media will pass through the classifier (shown at right) prior to blasting, ensuring consistent arc heights or surface profiles.
BBO Basket Blasters If you're looking for a fast, efficient, economical method for finishing small parts, check out one of Empire's BBO basket blasters. To finish parts, you simply drop them in the blaster's 9" x 9" basket, set the timer, and these table-top work savers do the rest. As parts are rotated through an abrasive blast stream, they are cleaned, finished or peened evenly and automatically. By simply varying air pressure and abrasive media, you control the type of finish you get as well as required processing times. Besides freeing you from the tedious chore of manual parts processing, Empire's BBO basket blasters save you time and money in other ways. They are inexpensive, come fully assembled and ready for operation, require only a two-horsepower compressor, use less electricity than a 150-watt light bulb, and meet OSHA requirements. BBO basket blasters come in two models: the BBO-1 with dust bag, and the BBO-2 with an OSHA-approved dust collection system. Both basket blasters are recommended for applications where blasting is performed two to three hours per day, although the BBO-2 will provide a cleaner, more efficient operation.
BB1 Basket Blasters BB1 basket blasters automate the batch processing of small parts in production environments at a very attractive price. A 20-inch wide by 12-inch diameter basket, supplied with an insert for handling very small parts, processes over 50 pounds per cycle. Two blast guns mounted on retractable holders permit quick and easy adjustment of blast angles. Other standard features include a one-cubic-foot media storage hopper, a 600 CFM tunable reclaimer, and the choice of a one-horsepower bag-house or cartridge-type dust collector. Cabinet construction, like all of Empire's production-grade equipment, consists of rugged 14-gauge steel.

SafeStrip™ Blast Cabinets Empire SafeStrip™ cabinets contain the blast process during the cleaning and stripping of delicate surfaces. They are designed to work in conjunction with our SafeStrip™ portable as well as other pots capable of delivering fine media. With a SafeStrip™ system, you can quickly and safely remove old coatings, dirt, oil, corrosion and other unwanted residues from soft metals, rubber, plastics and other sensitive surfaces. SafeStrip™ is ideal for work on tools, machine parts and molds, and in many other applications requiring a "light touch." SafeStrip™ systems assure even flow of light media by creating a differential between the pressure vessel and blast pressure. This pressure differential, which can be adjusted precisely with a manual valve, prevents bridging and produces consistent feed rates. When used with non-toxic abrasives, such as bicarbonate of soda, SafeStrip™ systems are environmentally safe, as long as materials being removed from the work surface are also non-toxic.
In-Line Conveyor Cabinet Now there's a way to air-blast parts in-line through a cabinet at a very attractive price. Empire's IL-885 Conveyor Cabinet costs 60 to 70 percent less than an automated in-line blast system, but delivers comparable results when used on short-production runs. Designed specifically for economy and light production, this cabinet incorporates all the proven features of Empire's standard Pro-Finish® line. We've added a conveyor assembly with a 9-inch wide by 72-inch long belt, as well as variable speed control, enabling you to simply load work pieces at one end and take them off on the other. This system, which includes adjustable part guides, is ideal for deburring, cleaning, surface profiling, and finishing work pieces. Equipped with four suction blast guns, which can be adjusted individually, the system blasts parts of many different shapes and sizes from tubular to flat work pieces. If two sides of a work piece require blasting, the piece can be reloaded for a second pass. Other features of the compact unit include: a control panel located on the loading end of the conveyor for on/off of the system, the lights, and the blower. Variable conveyor speed control and conveyor stop buttons at the entrance and exit vestibules of the cabinet are also provided.
Modified Blast Cabinets The concept of modifying cabinets focuses on configuring standard hardware to meet specialized application requirements with a minimum of custom engineering, a job for which Empire Abrasive Equipment is particularly well suited. Within our standard cabinet line, for instance, we offer over 100 models based on seven platforms, which include blast enclosures exceeding 140 cubic feet. Next, we draw on an array of standard factory options to facilitate part handling, system control and compatibility with the customer's process and workplace. Finally, as a producer of custom rooms and automated blast systems, we have the internal engineering and manufacturing resources to modify equipment on spec and on budget. In some cases, our modified cabinets have reduced capital costs for air-blasting equipment by as much as 70 percent in operations that might have otherwise required a blast room or an automated system.
Manual Modified Blast Cabinets We modify standard cabinets to contain and/or facilitate the processing of workpieces with dimensions or weights that might otherwise require a more costly blast room.
Partially Automated Modifed Blast Cabinets When modified to include automated features that control single or multiple blast variables, our cabinets often approach the repeatability, speed and efficiency of an automated system at a fraction of the cost.
Mercury (Deburring) The Mercury centrifugal disc is best suited to manufacturers of small, high-volume parts. Pneumatic Blast & Recovery Empire's Pneumatic Recovery System (PRS) provides an economical method of blasting and reclaiming abrasives. The Pneumatic Recovery System consists of a high performance, high-vacuum dust collector, blower, and motor with an 800 CFM reclaimer and a storage hopper designed to fit on top of a portable pressure vessel. The pressure vessel may be previously purchased or supplied with the system.
FaStrip® Portables When stripping operations involve delicate surfaces or require precise removal of old coatings, nothing beats FaStrip® machines for speed, quality, safety or economy. By delivering plastics, wheat starch or other soft media at low pressures, FaStrip® makes it possible to strip delicate metallic or composite materials quickly and thoroughly without damaging the substrate. Compared to alternative stripping methods, Empire's FaStrip® process offers a number of major benefits. When chemical agents are used to remove coatings for example, rubber components, windows and other vulnerable areas must be thoroughly protected. Otherwise, those materials and underlying structures or controls may be damaged. Also, residual caustics can later damage fresh paint. With FaStrip®, most of this prep work is unnecessary. For instance, masking does not have to be extended beyond the windows on to the paint, so a great amount of manual detailing is eliminated.
Because the FaStrip® process does not employ toxic chemicals, it is safer for workers and the environment. In addition, less time is required for cleanup and the high costs for disposal of hazardous chemicals are reduced or eliminated. In short, Empire's FaStrip® process offers three compelling advantages over alternative methods. It's faster, safer and more efficient, which all adds up to better results and higher profits when you're stripping expensive equipment. FaStrip® machines are available in cabinet models as well as portable units.
Suction Blasters With Empire suction blasters, you enjoy the benefits of blasting at a very low cost. Our S-4 and S-100 suction units have trigger-action guns for start-stop control.
