All Babbitt alloys are soft and easily susceptible to wear, but have small hard crystals dispersed in the soft alloy, which get exposed as the bearing wears down. Babbitt bearings are widely found in automobile and marine engines, where the tin-based Babbitt bearings are commonly used.
