A liquid level sensor is, as the name suggests, any type of sensor that is used to determine and denote the level of a liquid in an enclosed area such as a container, tank, or even a natural storage environment such as a lake. There are two types of sensors, viz. continuous- and point-level sensors. In continuous-level sensors, the level is measured between a fixed range and the readings determine the exact volume of the liquid. On the other hand, a point-level sensor only specifies whether the level is above or below a fixed point. Some commonly used liquid level sensors are magnetic and mechanical floats, pneumatic sensors, and conductive sensors. While pneumatic sensors are ideal for highly viscous liquids, conductive sensors are used with conductive liquids and especially suited for highly caustic liquids.
