In contrast to their thermal counterparts, Catoxª recuperative systems use a catalyst to encourage the oxidation reaction (HC + O2 + heat > H2O + CO2) to occur at temperatures between 500-600°F (260-315°C). This is less than half the heat needed for thermal oxidation, and creates an opportunity to substantially reduce fuel expenses and material costs. The addition of a preheater (heat exchanger) further reduces the need for supplemental fuel. In many cases the system requires no supplemental fuel in an operating condition known as "autocatalytic". AES continues to focus on catalyst development to further reduce operating and capital costs. A recuperative catalytic oxidizer gets it’s supplemental heat from electric burners, not a gas burner.
Air-Clear Catalytic Recuperative Oxidizer Systems (CATOX™) A 6,000 SCFM Catalytic Oxidizer on a Federal Government remediation site The Air-Clear Advantage in Catalytic Oxidation • Proven Conversion of hydrocarbons or VOCs to have negligible photochemical reactivity. can be as high as 99.9% efficiency with 50% less energy use. • Lower operating temperatures result in lower NOX emissions, without significant formation of CO. • Air-Clear’s CATOX™ CATALYTIC OXIDIZER Systems are smaller and lighter than their thermal counterparts, requiring a smaller footprint. • Our flameless catalytic electric heat systems do not generate NOX emissions. • A variety of catalyst types are available to optimize performance for each particular application. Even halogenated organic compounds can be controlled with the proper catalyst.

Regenerative Catalytic Oxidizers (RCO) Air-Clear’s Regenerative Catalytic Oxidizers (RCO) are the most energy efficient, cost effective solutions for the reduction of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and odorous air emissions...here’s why. Highly effective at reducing VOCs by means of catalytic oxidation, eliminates as much as 99% of the VOCs meeting the EPA. • Ceramic energy recovery beds capture and reuse up to 95% of the systems energy. The result is low fuels cost. • Heat released from the oxidation of the VOCs is also captured in the recovery beds which further help reduce supplement fuel use. In fact, with a VOC concentration of about 3% of the Lower Flammability Limit (LFL) the RCO is self sustaining, that is no supplement heat input is required. Low profile, skid mounted, RCO (12,000 CFM) is being lowered onto the structural support frame.
