Spot welding is a type of welding operation that uses the heat generated by the resistance that is created when electricity flows through metallic work pieces to join two metal sections together. The process involves holding the two sections together between welding electrodes on either side and then passing strong current through the spot where the electrodes apply pressure to the work pieces. The current sufficiently heats up the area to melt the work piece, which, in combination with the clamping action of the electrodes, forms a weld joint. This method of welding is commonly used to weld thin sections of metals, such as mild steel, brass, aluminum, cast iron, and stainless steel.
